PhilosophyEvan uses the round pen as a way to set the foundation of communication with horses. From there, every horse is exposed to everything possible on a ranch type setting. As each horse progresses, the program is adjusted specifically to each individual as they develop their confidence and strength. Evan emphasizes miles mixed with local natural terrain to help each horse develop mentally. "The arena is a good tool, but if it were the only tool, I would be limited in my trade."
"The Snaffle and Hackamore are the tools for young horses and horses needing a tune up. Both are forgiving enough to maintain suppleness in the mouth, yet provide the foundation for yield and flexion. Then when the horse responds to the training rigs we move toward the leverage bits.. " "Leverage bits are commonly miss used and grossly overused in horses showing a tenancy to push the bit. I caution riders to apply there bits more methodically. Know why you use, and understand each bit."
